So then, 5 months on and this blog gets an update...!

All I'll say is, apologies to those who read this and wanted a "finish", but I liked it cliffhanging over the edge there. I also HAD to stop as there were a few issues to do with RN media restrictions and what I can/can't do... so I had to wait while a few things were cleared up. And now that everything has been sorted, those of you who are still interested, I am continuing a brand new blog, much in the same vein, if you go to

Doug on Deployment? What?

I am Doug, a marine engineer on HMS GLOUCESTER, a royal navy type 42 destroyer. GLOUCESTER has been tasked with "south atlantic patrol" in the latter part of 2009. This involves patrolling and protecting the UK's territories in the southern atlantic, namely the falkland islands. The majority of the deployment will be spent in and out of the islands, but there will (hopefully) be many port visits en route and when we return.

I have limited internet access during this deployment, due to operational reasons, but this blog is one of the sites that I can visit and update regularly. Follow this blog to keep up-to-date on my progress, see videos and pictures of places I've been. Please note that there is every possibility the ship could be re-tasked during this time and updates could cease if required by command... but let's hope not... :-)
